While many games that will be released towards the end of 2020 will be released for current and next generation game consoles, The Medium will be released only for Xbox Series X and PC, bypassing current and old generation systems.
Jacek Zieba, a producer from Bloober Team, said in a new interview with Xbox that it is in The Medium’s interest to skip current-gen consoles. “We don’t have any work for current consoles, so Xbox Series X will always deliver the experience we want for The Medium.”
“We could have released The Medium within Xbox One, but it would come at a cost. Of course, theoretically, you could rekindle any game idea, but in our case you would have to completely change the core gameplay features,” Zieba said. “With the power of Xbox Series X, we can develop the game the way we envision.”
“The marketing team is going to kill me for saying it too soon, but we’re putting in the extra effort to bring out builds that enable gameplay in the next generation,” Zieba said.
Bloober Team previously developed Blair Witch in 2019. In The Medium, you play as a vehicle traveling to a hotel where a boy was murdered years ago. “You have a wider perspective when using the tool with access to both worlds and you can see more clearly that what others perceive is not a simple truth. Nothing is as it seems, there is another side to everything.”
The Medium’s music was composed by Akira Yamaoka, who made a name for herself with her work in Silent Hill games.
